Ozone Therapy Manual for Equine Care

"With the publication of this manual, I hope to spread the knowledge, practice, and many

benefits of ozone therapy, so that it becomes the heritage of all veterinarians worldwide."

This is the statement by veterinarian Ettore Ballardini, a specialist in orthopedics and

sports medicine, rightly considered one of the most advanced veterinarians in the use of

ozone therapy for equine care.

Over the past twenty-three years, Dr. Ballardini has successfully used ozone to treat

thousands of horses in Italy, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Malta, Denmark, Slovenia,

Germany, and France.

Regarding the use of ozone to treat various pathologies, Ballardini has published

numerous articles and clinical experiences in national and international scientific journals

and has given lectures on the use of ozone in equine veterinary medicine.

In this context, Ballardini has just published the "Manual of Equine Ozone Therapy".

The publication of the Manual was made possible thanks to the support and promotion of

the Health's Ozone Society Aps (HOS) (https://www.hosociety.it/) and the support of

Healthyearth (HE) (https://www.healthyearth.it).

During an interview, Ettore Ballardini told us that he first learned about ozone therapy as a

treatment for equine conditions in June 2002. His father, who had read some articles on

ozone therapy applied to sports medicine, told him about it.

From the very beginning (2002), Ballardini began practicing ozone therapy, primarily to

treat orthopedic conditions in performance horses, using both systemic and local ozone.

The main reason that convinced him to use ozone therapy was its proven efficacy in

human medicine and the excellent results he saw from the first clinical trials.

Ballardini immediately grasped the novelty and the potential of an innovative clinical

practice, even though very few people were using ozone therapy, and indeed some of his

colleagues were opposed to it.

Ballardini explained that this situation of limited knowledge and partial closed-mindedness

drove him to gather the fruits of his many experiences and publish a manual listing more

than 34 equine conditions treated and resolved with ozone therapy.

In each of the chapters, which covers the various equine conditions, along with the

diagnosis and veterinary analysis, Ballardini explains in detail the administration technique,

the treatment protocols used, the mechanism of ozone action, and recounts individual

cases treated and resolved.

As a result, to date, the "Manual of " is the only one in the world.

Ballardini's stated goal is to raise awareness and practice of ozone therapy more rapidly,

making the lives of his younger colleagues easier.

The Manual is intended for all veterinarians and those working in equine care, with the

hope that ozone therapy will not be practiced in all settings and that such an important

innovation will not be introduced for twenty years.
